Details: Program Manager - Senderos (Pathways) Program Definition: Senderos is a parent engagement program that educates, engages and empowers parents and caregivers to be effective advocates and change agents for themselves, their families, and communities. The goal of this program is to create Senderos—Pathways— for parents so they can help their children achieve academic success, improve overall wellness, and create community transformation. Specifically, we offer pathways for parents by 1) Providing services that stabilize the family through immediate and basic needs (food vouchers, rental assistance, case management, etc.) 2) Developing advocacy by educating and raising awareness (classes/training in parenting, financial literacy, anger management, job skills, legal aid, information on community/government resources, etc.) and 3) Transforming communities by providing opportunities for community mobilization (leadership training and advocacy classes, coordination and facilitation of parent advisory councils, community guidance bodies that identify and address community issues, and parent task forces). The Senderos Program Manager reports to the Family Services Director, and is responsible for implementation of Relationship-based community organizing strategies within three Para Los Niños learning sites—the Gratts Primary Center in Westlake, the Family Learning Complex (FLC) Charter School in Skid Row and Loma Family Services in the Temple-Beaudry area. The Senderos Program Manager will facilitate parental involvement, ensure that activities are efficiently coordinated, tracked and organized, and create policies and procedures documenting infrastructure development. Essential Responsibilities: Assess structures and procedures of current Parent Groups that exist at the three sites Facilitate the organization of these parent groups into “Senderos Guidance Bodies" (SGBs) Support the SGB’s in developing their own charters, which include policies, procedures, vision, goals and action plans for community identified projects Provide education and training in leadership and advocacy to community members on specific topics that SGBs identify as important to the community Establish mini parent task forces or working groups related to specific areas of community concern Recruit and outreach for community involvement in the Senderos program Responsible for parent recruitment and outreach, parent participation and parent involvement in the development of the Senderos Program Work with parents to develop a vision, timeline, and governing infrastructure for the Senderos’ parent-driven advocacy activities Recruit parents who are not affiliated with our schools into the program and strengthen partnerships with schools and organizations within the community Coordinate community asset mapping activities facilitated by external consultant Evaluation Responsibilities: Gather data and information from parents through interviews, surveys, focus groups, observations, etc. to assess community need Assess strengths and areas of improvement for the program Create systems and methods for closely monitoring processes and procedures for new and existing components of the program Produce monthly reports on all program activities Hire external consultant to coordinate and facilitate parent-focused analysis and research: i.e. community mapping exercises, focus groups, interviews, survey design, and final report. Apply Relationship-based engagement strategies to develop ongoing partnership membership development with residents, parents, Community Promoters Organize activities/meetings, and task forces designed to identify strengths and gaps within their communities Capitalize on existing partnerships with other schools and organizations in the area. Select, supervise, and support Community Promoters or Promotores involved in the different parent groups Assume responsibility for assigned projects including planning, organization, assignment of tasks and implementation; resolve related problems; and provide feedback to the program director as appropriate Coordinate the planning, facilitation, and delivery of resources, materials, trainings, events or other needs in efforts to support the Senderos Partnership structure, goals, outputs and outcomes Prepare presentations, including performing internet research, creating Power Point presentations, editing, and providing additional program support, as needed Coordinate event logistics, including planning meetings, and notifying attendees of event details, maintaining distribution lists, coordinating refreshments, and ensuring required conference room/equipment is available Identify training needs and plan workshops per the request of parent groups Maintain and assemble a network of various resources to provide for families Attend and participate in community meetings, events and conferences pertaining to Senderos Scope of Work Other duties as assigned and deemed appropriate by the Family Services Director Other Responsibilities: · Carry out mission, vision, and values established by Para Los Niños’ president/CEO and Board of Directors. Participate in the overall agency accreditation/ continuous quality improvement processes Must have the ability to nurture respectful relationships with Partnership members, including PLN staff and contractors, community agencies and leaders, and parents and other community stakeholders Must be sensitive to the cultural needs of all participants in the Senderos process
